Warm spring greetings, although as I write this on March 7, it still
seems like winter is not going to go away as early as we would probably all
like. I have a few winter aconite blooming and a purple heather but, so
far that’s it. We are sending the newsletter by both email and snail mail
to everyone for this issue to see if we can clarify why some folks still
aren’t getting the email version. We are also sending this newsletter out a
little earlier than usual because of the planned bus trip to the Region 2
Summer Meeting in Troy, Michigan..more a little farther down.
The meeting dates for this year and schedule is as follows, please mark
your calendars!!
Sunday, May 1st :
1pm Instead of quantity for the spring auction this year, we would like
members to donate a few fans of some of their newer or more expensive
daylilies. In the interest of time, we would like to shorten the auction so
less is better and newer are best. In addition, we will have a perennial
exchange so please bring in something to trade. In the past, some have also
brought bulbs and trees so don’t limit yourselves to just perennials. We
will also be having our guest plant distribution and again are trying
something a little different. We will be getting northern daylilies in May
and southern daylilies in August in an attempt to avoid rust. Tom Poston’s
introductions will be featured in May and Nicole Harry’s in August. Visit
their websites if you want to view the collections. Any member whose 2011
membership was paid by 12/31/10 is eligible to receive guest plants this
year.
Saturday, July 9thwill be
our ODS show and public sale. Please consider showing your daylilies if you
haven’t before. It’s fun and there will be folks there to help you with
grooming and preparing your dls for the show. We will also be having a sale
from noon until three for the
public. This is a chance for everyone to make room for new daylilies by
donating older ones to the sale.
Sunday, August 14th 1pm is
guest plant return and auction and distribution of guest plants. We will
also have another public sale during that time so again please donate some
of those clumps you’ve been wanting to get rid of. Bring your checkbooks!
Sunday, October 30th will be our
guest speaker Paul Owen, election of trustees and officers. Please bring finger
food to share.
We are taking a bus trip to the Region 2 Summer Meeting from 7/15-7/17 to
Troy, Michigan. We will visit at least 10 display gardens, get great deals
on daylilies and other garden items. We will also meet a lot of other
daylily enthusiasts over 3 days of fun packed weekend. You can also attend
a garden/exhibition judges clinic workshop while there if you are
interested. It is also an opportunity for current judges to take the
required refresher course if they are due for renewal this year or next.
Bus and meeting forms are enclosed so please consider joining us. Ask any
of us that went to Chicago in 2009 what it was like.
Hoping to see all of you on May 1st,
Kathy Proper, President
