NEWSLETTER April 2010

Letter from the president……………

At last!! Spring seems to be right around the corner. Doesn’t it feel great
to get outside after this long snowy winter? I have winter aconite, crocus,
snowdrops, hellebores and heathers blooming. All just a harbinger of
what’s to follow—daylilies!!

Many in our club have already been preparing for our hosting the summer
Region 2 meeting. I would love to see 100% participation by our members.
Even if you can only donate a few hours, they would be greatly
appreciated. There is a lot to be done and if you are not sure how you can
contribute, just ask. We can utilize everyone. We will need a lot of help,
especially during the week preceding the meeting. Much more information
can be found in the newsletter.

Please, if you have not been informed earlier, be aware that the April
meeting has been moved to Saturday, the 24th at 1pm. Please bring newer
daylilies for the auction, a perennial to exchange if interested and your
enthusiasm. We will be distributing Tim Bell’s 2009 & 2010 introductions
for guest plants. Remember, to be eligible for a guest plant in 2010 your
dues had to be paid through 2010 by December 31, 2009. Of course, there
will be a business meeting, mainly to work on the summer meeting.

Kingwood Center will be charging a parking fee of $5 per person
beginning this year. This might be the time to become a member of
Kingwood if you aren’t already. Single membership is $40 and dual/family
is only $50. Besides free parking, there are many other perks that are
described on their website.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for electing me as your
president. I have some ideas for the club that I hope will be found to be
helpful and I encourage anyone that might have any suggestions to speak
with me, call me, or email me. Also, please feel free to share any concerns
you might have with me or any of the trustees. We are also adding a
“dates to remember” to the newsletter so that everyone will have access
to them. Please mark your calendars.

Update on Reg 2 Summer meeting and reminder

Hi all,

The Region 2 Summer Meeting is just around the corner.  We've been talking and planning for this for 2 years and now it's here!  It's going to be a great event ... an Ohio Daylily Spectacular.  We hope everyone can attend or help out.

As of June 5, we have 195 registered to attend.  If you haven't signed up and want to go it's not to late ... but do it today as the most we can take is 250 and late fees apply after June 15th.  Attached is a registration form if you need one.

Both the hotels next to the Galaxy are currently full for July 16 & 17.
-Our website, www.ohiodaylilysociety.org lists other hotels in the area. Hotels listed here.
-If you have a room reserved and decide you are not using it, please contact Dave Moore, 239-823-6927, mooresfarm@yahoo.com so we can make sure the room is transfered to someone who needs it.

Next time you're in your garden, consider what daylilies you plan to donate to the ODS plant sale in the boutique area.  We also need some 'I See Stars' to give out as bus gifts.  If you are donating any newer daylilies (Eureka price over $15) please let Kathy Proper (properplace@neo.rr.com, 330-336-7592) know what they are by June 30th.  Attached is important information on preparing and labeling your daylilies.

Here's what's coming up...

Saturday, July 10th – Bus Garden Tour rehersal, bus captains meet at Galaxy at 8am.  The final bus routes will be reviewed and followed with a brief stop at each tour garden and the lunch site.  For more information contact Dave Winters, 440-235-2895, 1945cubs@earthlink.net

Sunday, July 11th – Plant Collection and Workshop at Kingwood starting at 1PM.  Bring (or send with someone else) any items being donated (daylilies, items for the silent auction, bus gifts, goodies for the welcome bag).  Boutique, bus, and registration materials will be organized, and various aspects of the upcoming event will be reviewed to ensure we are ready.  For more information contact Dave Moore, 239-823-6927, mooresfarm@yahoo.com

Wednesday, July 14th (if needed) – Workshop at Stinnett’s starting at 10AM  This is the final day for collecting plants and completing preparations for the Region 2 meeting.  All plants need to be delivered by noon at the latest.  For more information contact Chuck and Carol Stinnett, 330-722-7106, ccstinnett@juno.com.

Thursday, July 15th – Setup for Region Summer Meeting at the Galaxy starting at 1PM.  We will be setting up the boutique and registration areas for the Region 2 Summer Meeting.  For more information contact Dave Moore, Wendy Schwall, 419-462-1762, jschwall@neo.rr.com or Kathy Proper.

Friday, July 16th - Region 2 Summer Meeting starts.  Remember to wear your ODS polo shirt.
